Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a traditional chinese medicine (TCM) practice that involves using fine needles inserted into the skin to promote circulation, relaxation, release trigger points, etc. During an acupuncture treatment sterile single-use thin needles are placed in different parts of your body related to your main complaint. These needles could be placed on the scalp, neck, back, arms, hands, feet, stomach, chest, or ears. Acupuncture works with channels in the body and like little antennas, they talk to your system to trigger a healing response. Needles are retained for about 10-20 minutes on each side of your body– giving your body a chance to heal itself.
Acupuncture needles do not need to be used for every appointment and it is possible to make an appointment with the request of no needles.
Acupuncture can also include one or more of the following modalities:
- Moxa
- Fire cupping
- Gua Sha ( skin scraping)
- Electro-acupuncture
- Tui Na (Acupressure/Massage)
- Lifestyle Advice
It is a combination of these modalities that makes acupuncture very effective to reduce pain, promote healing, improve range of motion, sleep, digestion, and a myriad of other issues, both chronic and acute.
